Polk County commissioners approved a construction contract to build a modern roundabout at the County Road 540 (Cypress Gardens Road) and Lake Ned Road intersection. County Manager Bill Beasley presented item G‑2, saying the public bid (Bid No. 26‑218) produced an apparent low responsive, responsible bid and that funding is available in the Transportation Trust Fund.
Beasley described the work as including roadway, drainage, signage, pavement markings and related infrastructure to enhance safety and traffic operations. He said the board action would reflect a total contract limit not to exceed $1,931,532.85, including an allowance/contingency of $91,977. The motion to approve the contract was made, seconded, and passed by voice vote. "This project consists of constructing a modern roundabout at this intersection," Beasley said. The manager noted a 210‑calendar‑day contract time for completion. Commissioners welcomed the project as a congestion‑management and safety improvement for a busy intersection. The contract award authorizes staff to proceed with executing the construction contract and managing delivery within the approved contingency amount.
