Berrien County prosecutor to apply for Local Prosecutor Support Grant to upgrade equipment and offices

Amy Byrd, Berrien County Prosecutor, told the Administration Committee on May 14 that she will apply for the Local Prosecutor Support Grant under Resolution A2605181 to update office equipment and staff resources.
Byrd said the grant, if awarded, would be used to purchase more efficient computers for case processing, fund staff training and pay for office space reconfiguration; after the office went paperless she said building and grounds could put up walls to create up to six offices within the existing footprint. Byrd described the program as reimbursement-based with four years to expend funds and with flexibility to amend the grant for other designated uses. The committee approved the resolution.
Committee member Sharon Tyler suggested obtaining letters of support from judges to strengthen the application. Tyler also noted that the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office is facing difficulties and may request assistance from Berrien County; the committee discussed that possibility but took no formal action on inter-county assistance at the meeting.
The committee recorded the approval of A2605181 and signed the resolution for the file. No vote tally or mover/second were recorded in the minutes.
