Market organizers ask for more street sweeping; county warns construction may complicate logistics

Alexis Krueger and Dina, organizers of the Anaconda Community Market, told commissioners the market sometimes experiences dust and vendor loss and requested an initial sweep before the season and periodic sweeping during the market season (Thursdays, July 2–Sept. 3).

"Sometimes it can be a little bit dusty and windy, and we have lost a few vendors in the past, so we're requesting a sweeping before the market start date, and then periodically throughout the season," Alexis said. She asked the county to provide advance notice of construction so organizers can plan vendor spacing.

CEO Bill Everett said the county will try to accommodate market needs but cannot promise ad-hoc street-sweeper runs. "We will do our best to try to help you out, so let me know beforehand and we'll see what we can do. We will be doing all of our street sweeping the first week of May this year," Everett said, and cautioned that separate utility or contractor work — including unresolved issues with Northwestern Energy in the Main Street area — could require digging that interferes with market layout.

Krueger also described the Smelter City Scamper race logistics: packet pickup at Kennedy Commons on the Friday before the race, three possible routes, and a requested closure of Fourth Street between Main and Hickory for the Aug. 8 start/finish. The commission placed the market and race permits on a future agenda pending certificates of insurance and routing approvals.
