Resident criticizes restrictions on naming teachers and questions board unanimity

Janet Blatt, a Glen Cove resident who identified her street address for the record, used public comment to challenge the board’s rules limiting speakers from naming individual teachers during public comment and to press for more board transparency. Blatt said it was "absolutely hypocritical" that administrators could publicly praise teachers while commenters were barred from naming specific staff; she urged the board to allow detailed public praise and clearer discussion of voting rationales.

Blatt also criticized what she described as a pattern of unanimous votes without members explaining dissenting views to the public. "You own it and it's a bad budget," she told the board, arguing that voters should not assume unanimity equates to unanimous agreement among trustees. The clerk and chair explained procedural limits on direct responses and noted that answers to public comment questions would be provided at the next board meeting or via the district's communication channels.
