Superintendent and district administrators listed program-level reductions and items the district intends to preserve. The superintendent said they are "reducing our summer academic program" and will pause the twilight program because of low attendance, noting some items were funded originally with temporary COVID relief.
The district also plans to end the middle-school 9-period day and revert to an 8-period day; staff said that change "saves about $450,000" through staffing reassignments while stating that mandated TAs and services for students with IEPs will be maintained. The presentation emphasized retained services: Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) tied to IEPs, the BOCES credit-bearing high-school summer program, continued AP and dual-enrollment offerings, and expanded pre-K seats.
District staff repeatedly assured the public that the reductions were targeted to preserve classroom instruction and that the district would not intentionally increase class sizes to meet savings. Officials said some savings come from holding vacant coordinator positions and cutting travel and conference budgets.
