Glen Cove board hears $122.3M 2026–27 budget proposal, seeks simple-majority approval May 19

District staff presented the Glen Cove City School District’s proposed $122,300,000 budget for the 2026–27 school year and described a proposed tax levy of roughly $81,500,000, a 2.42% increase over the current levy that the presenter said "does not pierce the cap." The budget documents, the presenter said, rely on multiple revenue sources including PILOT payments, consumer utility tax receipts specific to city school districts, interest earnings, tuition and Medicaid, and a planned $4,000,000 use of reserves.

The presenter outlined expenditures by component: capital at about $12 million, administrative costs near $8.7 million and program expenditures around $101.5 million, producing a budget-to-budget increase of about 3.55%. The district also described three capital priorities in the plan: consolidating four Pre-K classrooms into the completed Daisy addition with minor interior makeovers, repairs and possible regrading for aging playgrounds, and targeted bathroom upgrades across facilities. "If on May 19 the budget does not pass," staff said, the Board may either hold a revote or adopt a contingency budget that "cannot increase the tax levy above the current year's levy" and would exclude equipment purchases and new capital projects.

The presenter told residents that the annual budget vote and board trustee election will be May 19 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and directed the public to detailed budget presentations on the district website. The district said the proposed levy requires a simple majority (50% plus one) to pass; voting locations will be Glen Cove High School for election districts a–c and Connolly School for district d.
