Board chair urges caution on proposed baseball facility, sets 2026–27 goals

The board chair opened his report by summarizing three top items: budget projection, an athletic-facility proposal and summer school, and said the board will monitor surplus in April and May to manage the daily rate. "I would like to summarize, 3 points in my report, budget projection, athletic facility proposal in summer school," the chair said.
On the athletic proposal, the chair said he supports the athletic coordinator's intent but will slow the project until the board completes a wider assessment of district needs. "I support the athletic coordinator's intent to try to approve the facility... I'm just starting with no. I'm saying, no," the chair said, noting the board must be judicious when directing large percentages of funding. Helen, who said she had not seen the proposal before it went to the facilities director, called for a clearer process for raising projects with the board.
The chair also listed the board's five strategic priorities for the coming year: financial stability, effective communication and collaboration, expanding credit-bearing vocational opportunities, recruitment and retention of staff, and safety. He emphasized advocacy to maintain funding for staff with augmented certifications amid a tight labor market for math and science teachers.
