Village agrees to sponsor candidate for Zone 5 law-enforcement academy

The board authorized village sponsorship for Patrick Lorenz to attend the Zone 5 regional law-enforcement training academy after hearing from staff and trustees about his qualifications and availability.
Trustees described Lorenz as 51 years old with a background as a marine, full-time EMT and experience on a county SWAT team. Phil Magg noted the candidate "is accruing all the costs to do the academy" and that Lorenz had agreed to pay those costs; staff said the village was stepping forward to provide the required sponsor. "He did need a sponsor, and that's why we're stepping forward to sponsor him, but he has agreed to pay all costs associated with going to the academy," Magg said.
Trustees approved the sponsorship by motion and voice vote, noting Lorenz's availability to serve and that prior village policy had limited paying academy costs for trainees who did not remain with the village.
