Commissioners ask outside attorneys to research possible data-center moratorium, vote 4–1

County Commissioner Chris Dybevick opened a special presentation from Flaherty Hood attorneys at the Feb. 17 Nobles County Board meeting and the board voted to ask the firm to research a possible moratorium on data-center development. The motion to have Flaherty Hood review moratorium language and related procedures passed 4–1 (for: Ahlers, Metz, Paplow, Dybevick; against: Demuth).
Mr. Scott and Mr. Keogh of Flaherty Hood introduced themselves and answered commissioners' questions about legal considerations, after which the board directed the firm to prepare guidance to inform future decisions on data-center proposals. The vote authorizes research only; no moratorium ordinance was adopted at the meeting.
