The Huachuca City Council approved staff requests to submit Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) proposals seeking federal support for a new ladder fire truck and for water meter upgrades.
Town Manager Suzanne Harvey described the fire truck request as a Community Project Funding submission requesting $1.3 million for a ladder truck, with an estimated local match "approximately 200, 300,000," and characterized the full purchase as about a $1.5 million acquisition. Harvey said the truck is needed to preserve firefighting capacity and to avoid negative impacts on the town's ISO rating, which affects insurance costs.
Harvey told the council she submitted one request retroactively to Rep. Juan Ciscomani's office because of timing and asked permission to also submit to Sen. Mark Kelly's office to increase the town's chance of receiving funding. She also asked the council to prioritize the fire truck over water meter upgrades; the council approved the submission and prioritization unanimously.
Council members discussed matching-fund logistics and noted federal timing could delay any award; Harvey said the town intends to cover the match across two fiscal years if needed and would comply with subsequent USDA and procurement requirements if an award is made.
