Town attorney to draft firearms-code amendments to comply with state law

Town Attorney Thomas Benavidez said he wanted authorization "to prepare these ordinances to bring us current with state law. We currently prohibit things which the state does not," according to the meeting minutes. The code sections identified for revision included Section 18.100.210(D)(1) (Weapons Merchant Prohibited Home-Based Business Use), Section 9.20 (Minors Prohibited From Carrying Firearms) and Section 2.55.070 (Fees Chargeable By Police Before Firearms Transfer).
Council approved the motion to prepare the ordinances on a motion by Johann Wallace and seconded by Cynthia Butterworth; the motion passed unanimously. No draft language or effective dates were provided at the meeting; the authorization was for drafting only.
