Staff presented a request asking the board to approve a 3.5% CPI pay increase for custodial staff intended to help with recruitment and retention. Trustees questioned a differential in pay between East- and West-side custodial positions and several argued that employees performing equivalent work in different buildings should receive equal pay.
After discussion, no member made a motion to approve the CPI increase and the chair declared the item dead for lack of a motion. Trustees asked staff to return with further information, and some members recommended additional analysis of county-wide compensation and possible legislative advocacy.
