District reports nine students classified as chronically absent in first quarter

District staff reported that the first reporting quarter (July–September) covered 20 school days and that nine students had absences meeting the district's chronic-absence threshold (absent more than 10% of the school year). "There have been 20 school days. And we technically have 9 students been absent for more than 2 days of school, which make them chronically absent," the staff member said.
The staff member noted that the district had documented reasons for those absences and that periodic illness is a common factor. The board received the update as part of a quarterly attendance report and was reminded that next quarter reporting runs Oct. 1–Dec. 31.
