At the Aug. 3 meeting, finance intern Emma Birie presented highlights of her summer with Monument's finance department and described specific tasks she completed and lessons learned.
Birie said she helped prepare the capital improvement plan through about 2031 with staff and updated the fee schedule after the town's fee study. She also worked on grant narratives, monthly bank reconciliations and digitizing historical documents. "I created the capital improvement plan with Steve Murray where we go over all of the capital projects we will be doing for the next I believe 5, 6 years," Birie said. Councilors asked about takeaways; she said the experience clarified how local government budgeting and interdepartmental coordination operate and confirmed her interest in local government work.
Council thanked her and wished her success for an upcoming semester in Washington, D.C., where she will intern in Congress.
