The Manistee County Policy/Personnel Committee reviewed the county’s Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program and Policy at its April 13 meeting and recommended that the Administrator/Controller be listed as the contact when complaints involve Human Resources. The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m. by Commissioner Karen Goodman and included county staff and officials both in‑person and via Zoom.
The policy document quoted in the packet states, "Manistee County is an equal employment opportunity employer." Committee discussion noted that Appendix A names the HR Generalist as the county’s EEO Officer with responsibilities including data collection, outreach, monitoring and reporting. The committee recommended that, to avoid conflicts when HR is implicated, the Administrator/Controller be designated as the contact point for complaints about Human Resources. Controller/Administrator Lisa Sagala and HR Generalist Julie Griffis participated in the review and confirmed the recommendation would be reflected in the program language and related procedures. The committee did not take a formal vote; the recommendation was recorded as the committee’s direction.
