Santee Board unanimously suspends expulsion for student #01-2425 and imposes rehabilitation plan
Summary
After closed-session deliberations Sept. 30, the Santee School District Board voted 5-0 to expel student #01-2425 for alleged threats and physical-harm violations but immediately suspended the expulsion while requiring a rehabilitation plan that includes school placement, counseling and 20 hours of community service by June 12, 2025.
The Santee School District Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 30 to expel student #: 01-2425 for alleged violations of California Education Code Sections 48900 (a1) (causing or threatening physical injury) and (.7) (making terroristic threats) and District Board Policy 5144.1. Member Elana Levens-Craig moved the action after the board held closed-session deliberations; the board reconvened to public session at 5:07 p.m. and recorded a 5-0 vote in favor of the motion.
The board simultaneously suspended the expulsion and imposed a Rehabilitation Plan the student must complete by June 12, 2025. The plan requires the student to remain in the Santee Success Program through June 12, 2025; achieve and maintain a 2.0 GPA or better for scholarship, effort and citizenship; receive no new suspensions; attend school regularly with no unexcused absences or tardies; perform 20 hours of community service at the Santee Success Program by June 12, 2025 (with written verification); and complete a counseling program for decision-making and peer pressure. The minutes state a parent must meet with the Director of Pupil Services by Oct. 4, 2024, to review and sign the Rehabilitation Plan; the minutes warn that failure to meet or sign may result in expulsion without further board action.
