New Sunnyvale Superintendent Dr. Crossley used the Aug. 7 board meeting to introduce himself and outline priorities for the coming year.
Crossley described more than 30 years in public education, his background as a teacher and district leader, and personal details about his family and upbringing. He emphasized values of equity, "knowing every kid by name, strength and need," and systemic clarity—reviewing policies, structures and supports to improve student outcomes. He said in five weeks on the job he had conducted many one-on-one meetings with association leaders, community groups and city partners and emphasized collaboration with the executive team and principals.
Regarding governance and transparency, Crossley recommended additional public data presentations and study sessions, suggesting an Oct. 14 opportunity to present a state-of-the-district update and a December year-end review. He also proposed adding clearer governance calendar items and more frequent facilities updates tied to the bond program so the board and public have earlier visibility into project changes. "We wanna make sure that we have a clear timeline in terms of those expectations and how we're moving forward," he told trustees.
Board members welcomed Crossley; trustees later praised school ribbon-cutting events and asked staff to make governance materials and timelines more accessible to the public.
