Dr. Jessica Sonntag told the board the district still has several open positions, including a Spanish teacher, an early childhood teacher and an elementary special‑education teacher. She said Carolyn Taylor, who taught Spanish at HBRHS for more than 30 years, is willing to come out of retirement to teach Spanish this year.
"Carolyn Taylor is willing to come out of retirement to teach Spanish this year. Ms. Taylor taught Spanish at HBRHS for over 30 years," Sonntag said.
Sonntag also described a Grow Your Own teacher preparation model in partnership with Bloomboard, Inc., that embeds paraprofessionals as teacher interns who work while completing licensure in exchange for a commitment to remain at HBR on completion of the program. The administration presented this as a recruitment and retention strategy; the district noted one Hinckley alumnus is already in the paraprofessional pathway and would transition to a special‑education teaching role after graduation.
The board did not take separate action on these staffing items at the Aug. 13 meeting; personnel changes were reflected in the consent agenda and personnel report.
