Resident Barb Watne asked the Hinckley-Big Rock Building, Grounds & Transportation Committee on June 3 for permission to use the sidewalk along the east side of HBR Elementary School for travel by golf carts or other small motorized vehicles.
"She requested permission to use the sidewalk located along the east side of HBR Elementary School, which runs north and south between the school and Miller, for travel by golf cart or other motorized vehicles that can safely fit on the path," the meeting record states. Watne said the alternative route requires travel on Route 30 and "presents a safety concern."
Committee members discussed types of motorized vehicles that might be permitted and safety considerations for allowing any motorized traffic on a pedestrian path. Members proposed placing signage at both ends of the pathway to communicate permitted usage and restrictions if the committee pursues a change in policy.
No formal motion to change policy or to permit golf-cart access was made during the meeting. The topic remained under discussion and may be scheduled for future review.
