Representative Peter Springfield said the addition and ADU would be set back to meet current setbacks and that materials were proposed to either match existing clapboards or use fiber cement to mimic the historic texture.
Commissioners praised spinning the garage 90 degrees to reduce street presence but raised concerns that the proposed porch canopy and dormer configuration created an incompatible roofline; one commissioner recommended a shed roof alternative to simplify the massing. The applicant said they would provide precedent images and refine the canopy and dormer details based on the feedback. "So we're taking the garage away from this position... and we're putting it here," Springfield said when describing the plan to reduce visibility from the street.
The commission left the item as a pre-application and asked for revised drawings showing simplified rooflines and clearer material and trim specifications before formal submission.
