Commission adopts FY26-27 CDBG action plan, directs submission to HUD

Deerfield Beach commissioners unanimously approved the fiscal year 2026-27 Community Development Block Grant annual action plan and projected use of $735,662 in CDBG funds for housing rehabilitation, infrastructure, public services and planning.
Jonathan Salas, the city's director of community services, presented the CDBG annual action plan and a proposed budget allocating $735,662 in HUD funds for FY26-27. Salas described activities eligible under CDBG rules (home rehabilitation, purchase assistance, playgrounds, sidewalks, transportation services and senior programs) and noted accomplishments from the prior year: assistance to 19 households through home repairs, 22 households through purchase-assistance, and a jump in transportation ridership from roughly 150 to 507 riders.
Salas asked the commission to adopt the action plan so the city could meet HUD's Aug. 15 submission deadline. The commission opened the item to public comment and received supportive remarks from former state representative Gwen Clark Reed and former commissioner Gloria Battle, both praising the program's value to residents. Commissioner discussion emphasized contractor oversight for home-rehab work and the need to monitor vendor performance. The commission approved the annual action plan by unanimous roll call.
