Trustees used the July 9 meeting to begin updating the district's board goals and strategic plan. The board reviewed a set of goals dating from 2018 and discussed adopting a five-year horizon with four core areas: academic excellence, facilities, finance, and community engagement.
Members consistently recommended adding explicit language on transparency and inclusivity and tying each goal to measurable objectives and annual review processes. One trustee proposed language phrased as: "Through transparent operations and best practices, the district will continue to be fiscally responsible while providing the best possible education for all students within the resources available." The board agreed to assign subcommittees that will draft objectives and measures for each goal area and to present proposed objectives to the full board for refinement.
The superintendent will convene administrative committees and return recommended objectives for trustee review in upcoming meetings; an executive session was planned next month to discuss evaluation tools and goal-related performance criteria.
