Commissioners said recent reviews discovered language that was inadvertently included in the county’s ordinances and that a temporary pause will allow staff, the planning commission and commissioners to uniformly correct the code. One commissioner clarified the moratorium will not prevent property owners from building houses on parcels already zoned for residential use.
The board approved the moratorium by voice/hand vote (5‑0). Staff said the pause is intended to be temporary and would give the county the time it needs to review and collaborate with the planning commission to address inconsistencies and potential unauthorized language in the zoning code.
