Board members ask for clearer reporting on career academies, enrollment and certifications

Several board members pressed for more-cohesive reporting on career academies and pathway courses. One member asked, "What courses do we offer and how many kids are enrolled?" emphasizing the board's need for enrollment trend data to inform decisions about program cuts or expansions. Members specifically mentioned pathway examples such as carpentry, culinary arts and aviation and said certificates and internships are important outcome measures.
Staff acknowledged that youth apprenticeship, business education and tech-ed enrollment appear under OE 10 and said the reporting could be expanded. Janelle told the committee she would check existing enrollment data and, if needed, consolidate academy information into a single report for governance to review.
The chair and members agreed to revisit academy reporting when OE 10 returns to governance, and one member offered to file a referral if the committee wanted a separate review. Staff said they would present existing data at the next scheduled OE presentation so the board could consider specific indicators and monitoring for academy success.
