The Sunnyvale School District approved an agreement with Think Together to pilot expanded-learning after-school programs designed to serve additional students through a sliding-scale payment model. The superintendent said the program could add capacity for up to 200 additional students in a pilot model and anticipates staff recruitment, hiring and training leading to a January program start.
"We would anticipate by mid November, end of November...but the start date, January has to go," the superintendent said, describing recruitment and community engagement steps. Trustees discussed potential first sites (largest elementary sites such as Ellis were named as high-need), funding implications (some general-fund support plus parent sliding scale rather than exhausted ELOP funding), and academic programming that mirrors school-day priorities such as coding, robotics and academic interventions. Trustees asked how the district will evaluate success; the superintendent said the district will use parent and staff surveys and program feedback to determine expansion.
The board approved the agreement by voice vote. Trustees noted the partnership could relieve high-school students who sometimes provide childcare for younger siblings and provide families with reliable after-school options.
