The board approved an agreement with Orenda Education to conduct a baseline equity systems study and provide leadership development. The superintendent said Orenda will perform a deep dive that includes focus groups with staff, review of district documents, classroom observations and student shadowing, and will return recommendations to redesign systems such as master schedules and course placements.
Trustees asked about cost and timeline; the superintendent said the study would use state professional development discretionary funds rather than the district general fund and that an initial report is anticipated by January with continued work through June 2026. Trustees emphasized the need for baseline data to identify disparities and told staff they expected actionable recommendations and professional development to follow.
"They'll be coming in and doing a deep dive...they'll be doing things like shadowing students," the superintendent said, explaining the methodology and expected deliverables. Trustees approved the agreement unanimously by voice vote.
