The Town of Coats Board of Commissioners on Oct. 9 approved rezoning RZ-25-02, changing a roughly 0.57-acre parcel at 126 E. Jay St. from Residential Main Street Transition (RMST) to Civic to allow church use for Christ Resurrected Church.
Town Manager Barbara Hollerand told the board that older zoning maps from 2017–2019 had classified the parcel as R20, which would have permitted church use. She said a July 2022 map update changed the classification to RMST and that the rezoning request restores a Civic designation compatible with the surrounding area. Mayor Chris Coats opened the public hearing, heard no speakers and the board approved the rezoning by unanimous vote.
