Committee flags calendar impacts: graduation timing, IHSA start date and bridge construction

Members discussed that Memorial Day timing could push graduation past the school year end, an IHSA season change may force Purple & Gold Night schedule changes, and Prairie Hill Bridge construction (Feb. 2–Nov. 2026) could cause student delays of up to 20 minutes.
The committee discussed several operational scheduling issues for 2026–27. Mr. Dougherty noted that Memorial Day falls later in 2026, which could result in graduation taking place after the academic year ends; the BMO is available the Saturday before Memorial Day if the date is changed. The Committee agreed to revisit the graduation schedule for 2026–27 and 2027–28.
Staff also raised that the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) is moving its season start one week earlier, which may force Purple & Gold Night to shift to the Thursday or Friday before the first game and could preclude holding the football scrimmage previously scheduled. Separately, Mr. Dugan said construction of the Prairie Hill Bridge will begin Feb. 2, 2026, and continue through November 2026; the District expects some students could arrive up to 20 minutes late while construction is underway.
