Coats manager reports parks events, downtown-reuse study and SRO contract discussions

Town Manager Barbara Hollerand provided routine staff updates at the Sept. 11 meeting, including a parks volunteer workday scheduled for Sept. 13, a community event where "Dunk-A-Cop/Ice Cream With A Cop raised approximately $1500 for Special Olympics," and Tip‑A‑Cop planned for Sept. 18.
Hollerand said the economic development strategic-plan workgroup has convened twice and staff anticipate additional citizen-engagement meetings in October. She also said the CPN Institute of Charlotte will examine downtown building reuse Nov. 13–14 and Harnett County Parks is assessing trail feasibility. Hollerand reported she met with Coats Elementary School Principal Ms. West about the SRO situation and that the county has asked whether the town wants to continue providing a school resource officer or have the county provide one.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about how yard-sale proceeds and park rental fees are recorded; Finance Director Connie Lassiter explained there is a line item for park rental fees in the General Fund and that ad-hoc event proceeds would be recorded there unless a separate project is set up.
