Commission discusses Hickory Grove marker placement, community-driven request

"We were thinking...the center point of Hickory Grove was probably at Hickory Grove Baptist Church at that intersection," the Chair said as commissioners described the church location and adjacent school as focal points. Commissioner Ryan McCray said the marker effort stemmed from a collective group in the community and suggested a site near a prominent church or general community location rather than a property tied to a single individual.
Staff cautioned that the state-approved application included a proposed location and that county staff must ensure markers do not go on private property without an easement. The commission agreed staff would coordinate with property owners and the state packet to finalize the installation site.
