Horry County appraisal staff call reassessment 'ridiculously successful,' plan new mapping tools

Staff member told the Horry County administrative committee that the recent countywide reassessment was largely successful and that outstanding appeals will be closed "over the next 30 days or so." The presentation said the office amended values when factual property information surfaced during appeals and that most disagreements reflect facts, not differences in opinion.
"A picture is just worth 1000 words," the Staff member said, describing newly produced maps that break new construction and appeals down by council district to help appraisers and the public visualize growth and possible hot spots. Staff said those visuals will help identify modeling issues and improve appraiser accuracy going forward.
The presenter credited the county PIO for timely public outreach about the reassessment and said the office will use appeals data and integrated software to move from a 50,000-foot view to a more granular, parcel-level perspective. The office emphasized the statutory goal to assess property "fairly and equitably" across political boundaries and said current appeals distributions show relative uniformity across districts.
