Downtown Enterprise Business Association awards $8,000 in scholarships to ESCC students

Regina Lacey, representing the Downtown Enterprise Business Association and Friends of Main Street, told council that the Hometown Heroes celebration raised funds to provide $8,000 in scholarships to students at Enterprise State Community College. The awards are Landon Bailey ($1,000), Brianna Wetzel ($1,000), Elizabeth Smith ($2,000, absent), and Alyssa Allen ($4,000).
Lacey said the event's success was a community effort that included downtown businesses, volunteers, Parks & Recreation, and a Freedom 5K that served as a key fundraising element. "We are able tonight to award $8,000 in scholarships to ESCC," she said. Lacey noted that recipients are participants in ESCC's new nursing program and that the association hopes to make the scholarship an annual offering.
Council members congratulated the recipients and thanked the association and volunteers for supporting education and workforce development in Enterprise.
