Public Works reports staffing shortfalls, flooding impacts and fleet changes

Kevin Rooney presented the Public Works annual report and described the department's road striping crew of four that operates from roughly May through October for both county and town roads. Interim County Administrator Mark Humbert said he has been in communication with the union about low-paying positions and signaled salary increases are forthcoming; the union did not pursue action at this time.
Rooney said the department is currently short six full-time Commercial Driver's License (CDL) positions. He also reported that recent flooding caused temporary road closures that have since been reopened and that several culverts clogged during the floods will be cleared. On fleet management, a truck previously declared surplus will be repaired (frame repair identified) and retained for continued use.
