ECDA reports 29 projects in process, Healthy Homes, demolition and grants update

ECDA staff told the Community Development Committee the department has 29 construction projects in process, completed five projects last month, is wrapping up Healthy Homes work with an Aug. 14 inspection deadline, and will soon begin construction on the Harbour House DCEO shelter project pending permitting.
At the Aug. 3 Community Development Committee meeting, ECDA presenter Barbie Brew Watson gave a departmental update on housing and CDBG-funded activities, project counts and outreach events.
"For our construction programs, we have 29 projects in process," Watson told the committee, and she said the department completed five projects during the prior month. She said LEHI has seven projects in process and the Healthy Homes program has four projects being finalized; inspections for those Healthy Homes projects must be completed by Aug. 14 so the HUD grant can be closed out.
Watson said the CDBG housing rehab program has 12 projects in progress and the rental-rehab/MIRA queues continue to generate demand. She reported the CDBG-funded private security incentive program processed 16 applications in July totaling $2,835.27 and currently has no remaining funds for that program.
On shelter funding, Watson said the DCEO shelter grant for Harbour House has completed contracts and pre-construction and was awaiting permit pickup from building and code; staff expected permits to be issued this week so construction could begin.
Watson also listed upcoming community outreach events including a back-to-school bash, a teacher resource fair, and a workforce conversation on Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
