Council accepts $20,000 arts grant for downtown mural on city building

Staff presented a grant agreement with the East Central Regional Arts Council for a mural to be located on the west-facing wall of the city's municipal liquor store. The grant is for $20,000 and staff described a multi-phase process including a public advisory panel and resident surveys to shape the mural design, plus a planned installation window around mid-June 2025.
"It is a $20,000 grant that the East Central Regional Arts Council has given to the city of Lindstrom," staff said. Council members discussed wall condition, potential cladding options to extend mural life, and whether incidental site-preparation costs would be needed; staff said the muralist will advise on site preparations and the city has some building funds available to cover necessary prep or cladding if recommended.
Council approved the grant acceptance and staff said they will return with design options later in the winter after public input and advisory-panel recommendations. A public launch event is planned following installation.
