Amanda and Jeremy James of 1501 Elizabeth Lane told the Village of Metamora Board of Trustees that a nearby drainage ditch is producing standing water and repeated road closures. "Heavy rainfall collects and backs up, causing standing water," Amanda James said, and the couple said the Village previously maintained the area but no longer does.
Engineer Bob Kohlhase, whose report was moved earlier on the agenda, told trustees there are "several options that can be discussed at a committee meeting" to address the problem and recommended further review by Public Works and staff. The board did not adopt a formal corrective action at the meeting and Attorney Brunton said he would review relevant ordinances where questions of responsibility arise.
The exchange placed the drainage problem on the board's radar for follow-up: trustees and staff discussed bringing detailed options, potential costs, and whether maintenance responsibilities fall to property owners or the Village. No timetable was set for a committee review or work order during the meeting.
