Commissioners move sheriff and election budgets into county General Fund

During the budget review with Scot Loyd, Sheriff Russell Thornton discussed placing the Sheriff's Office budget into the General Fund. County Clerk Tammi Cox also recommended moving the election budget into the General Fund. "It was the consensus of the Commission to put both the Sheriff and election budgets into the General Fund," the minutes record.
The change will be reflected in the draft 2026 budget and considered as part of the county's overall revenue and expenditure plan. Commissioners did not record a separate roll-call vote beyond noting the consensus during the budget discussion.
