Ottawa County awards $157,500 chip-seal contract to Circle C

The Ottawa County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously June 30 to accept a $157,500 bid from Circle C to chip-seal 30 miles of county roadway.
Chris Smith, the county's Public Works Director, presented two bids for the project — APAC Kansas - Shears Division at $290,057.95 and Circle C at $157,500.00 — and recommended the lower bid. "Staff recommended going with the lowest bidder of Circle C for $157,500.00," Smith said. The board approved the motion to accept Circle C's bid by a 3-0 vote.
Smith told commissioners the work should be completed by August and provided a map showing the areas scheduled for treatment. Commissioners also questioned related road-and-bridge invoices during the discussion but did not delay the award.
The motion to award the contract was made by Commissioner Duane Morris and seconded by Commissioner Scott Mortimer; the recorded outcome was "MOTION PASSED 3-0."
