Director: Community center renovation contract signed; 130‑day construction schedule

Marcus Graves updated the board on the community center renovation, saying the contract was approved and signed and the project has moved into mobilization.
"We've approved it. We've got the contract signed. We've already had our 1st kickoff meeting with the contractor and architect," Graves said. He said the contract includes 130 days for construction and that staff expect the renovated community center will host its first City Council event in July. Graves outlined interior improvements including ADA‑compliant restrooms, lowered interior circulation to the first floor for accessible conference-room access, updated kitchen and furnishings, and an improved acoustic design.
Graves also described a temporary storage yard the city is establishing beneath the power lines near the community center to house rock, mulch and other materials during construction and for ongoing operations once the renovation is complete. He said the storage yard reduces materials staging in neighborhood areas and will keep the community center area tidier during construction.
Board members asked clarifying questions about parking during construction and the storage yard location; Graves said contingency funds and temporary staging areas are part of the current plan and staff will return with additional details as the project moves forward.
