Board backs cobble perimeter for Monarch Blvd/Buffalo Trail roundabout

Marcus Graves explained the three options presented in staff materials — vertical planting, a split landscaping approach, and a cobble installation — and recommended the cobble because it matches existing treatments on Monarch, reduces irrigation needs, and lowers long‑term maintenance. "The cobble is all over out there," Graves said; he added that cobble helps when crews clear snow and reduces turf-water demand.
Board members asked whether the cobble would be used only on the roundabout exterior (Graves: exterior only) and discussed sight lines, safety and a four‑foot planting‑height restriction staff noted is in effect for similar installations. After brief discussion a board member moved to recommend design option 3 (the cobble installation) to City Council and another member seconded the motion. Deputy City Clerk Goins called the roll; all board members present voted to approve and the chair announced the motion passed.
The board’s recommendation is advisory; City Council will review staff materials and the board’s recommendation before making a final design decision. Staff will insert the board’s selected design number into the formal recommendation package for council consideration.
