Nancy delivered the Chisago County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) update, outlining services from startup counseling and business‑plan help to referrals for QuickBooks training and industry research tools. She said the center is part of North Central SBDC with a main office in Brainerd and noted partnership referrals from banks and accountants.
“As you can see though back to this report, if you look at the clients by city, it's really a pretty good job of getting out across the county. Lindstrom, we had 10,” Nancy said. She emphasized that SBDC services are free and confidential and described partner consultants (Kathy Lindo, Molly Solgaard, Pam Thompson) who handle specialized areas such as marketing, financial packaging and accounting.
Board members pressed staff on whether the client counts for Lindstrom could be disaggregated further and asked staff to provide more detailed, anonymized data by city. Nancy said the SBDC can pull Lindstrom-specific counts and, where clients permit, provide more specific case detail. The EDA discussed using SBDC data to inform industrial-park and business‑attraction strategy.
