Council directs staff to move Anderson Peninsula gate, ask parks commission for tree plan
Summary

Staff reported volunteer-planted trees adjacent to the Almonds Rock (Anderson Peninsula) gate were placed to prevent vehicles from driving around the gate, but neighbors south of the site objected because they were not notified. Staff proposed moving the gate about 120 feet closer to the park entrance to make use of an existing tree line and berm as a barrier while leaving the volunteer plantings in place for the winter.
Council debated whether the trees should be removed immediately, whether the gate move would impede emergency access and whether a pedestrian-friendly gate should be part of the long-term plan. Council voted unanimously to move the gate this fall, keep the trees in place for now, and remit final tree-placement and long-term pedestrian-access recommendations back to the Parks Commission for formal consideration.
