The Human Services Committee voted to receive and place on file two federal grant items supporting homelessness services. The first item (GPM 02826) covered the FY28 Continuum of Care competition and Youth Homeless Demonstration Program grants totaling $212,094; the second (GPN 29 26) covered a coordinated-entry program for $90,736.
A committee member asked whether "competition" was a typo; staff explained that this is a HUD competitive application process in which communities apply and are evaluated on outcomes such as reductions in homelessness and length of time people experience homelessness. Staff said communities across the country compete for these awards and that scoring favors applicants that document success reducing homelessness.
The motions to receive and place the items on file were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The items will be recorded in county grant files and proceed through standard acceptance and program-implementation steps.
Next steps: Staff will proceed to implement awarded grants and report per HUD and county reporting requirements.
