Feral-cat group asks Montclair police to recognize TNR volunteers

Donna Marchese, speaking for Feral Cat Friends of Chino, told the council she wants Montclair police officers to be aware of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) activities so volunteers will not be mistaken for people dumping animals or for suspicious actors.
"I would like to make sure that all of your police officers know what TNR is and that we along with other trappers are out at night trying to catch feral cats," Marchese said, adding that members have been threatened and had traps stolen while working.
Marchese asked the city to help find volunteers and to use city outreach channels — social media pages, the sign at city hall, or the city newsletter — to connect trappers with one another. She offered to coordinate with local volunteers and named that her organization had previously worked with area groups.
Mayor invited Marchese to speak with the chief after the meeting and staff indicated they could post contact information to local community pages.
