County chief says 5th precinct will open by Aug. 26; temporary site at Forest Brook Fire Station

The Horry County police chief told the Public Safety Committee that the county's new 5th precinct is planned to come online by Aug. 26 and will operate temporarily out of the old Forest Brook Fire Station while the Central County Coast Complex is completed.
"Our 5th precinct will come online, by August 26, so we're excited about that," the chief said, adding the county expects to increase precinct sectors from roughly 30 to about 35 to reduce sector sizes and add personnel.
The chief said maintenance is working to ready the temporary facility and that precinct boundaries and sector maps will be distributed to council members. No specific staffing counts beyond sector adjustments were provided during the briefing.
