Officials report two recent vehicle collisions damaged multiple cemetery headstones

During the headstone project discussion, Parks Director Chip Horner told the board the city had two recent accidents that damaged markers, including one "about maybe in the last 10 days" where "somebody came off 31 and hit about 6 headstones." Horner said one incident is already being processed through insurance and the city will work with the owner and insurer to fix the newer damage.
Board members asked whether the age or foundation of older monuments—some dating to the Civil War era—affects repair plans. Horner confirmed many markers are historic and that some work is adjustments rather than full replacement. He said repeated vehicle strikes in a short period were notable: "0 in 20 years I've been here, and then we had 2 within 30 days."
