Chief Jester told the board, "We have discovered a mold situation at Station 1 that needs to be remediated," and laid out vendor costs, saying, "The total amount for the 4 companies is $384,135.89." He identified line items including remediation work, new HVAC equipment, temporary housing and electrical work.
Board members asked how the temporary housing and alerting would work. Chief Jester said city departments wired the trailer for tones and configured IT so the temporary unit can receive emergency alerts; he also outlined coverage plans, noting a fully staffed engine company will continue to respond from nearby stations while Station 1 is out of service.
The board moved and approved the emergency purchase as requested. Chief Jester told the board the remediation is scheduled for up to six weeks but that some rooms may be returned to service sooner.
Officials said legal had reviewed the procurement and deemed it to meet the qualifications for an emergency purchase. The city will proceed with remediation, temporary housing for crews and mechanical work to restore station operations.
