The Public Disclosure Commission on July 2 granted a reporting modification for Garmin Newsom, a candidate for Seattle Municipal Court, to exempt his personal residential address from required F-1 reporting for the prior 12 months.
Tabitha Townsend presented the request and said the candidate used an alternative address on his filing and agreed to recuse if a matter presented a personal conflict. Under oath, Newsom said he and his wife are former prosecutors and that his wife’s employment with Providence Health Care System raised additional safety concerns related to issues raised in the filing. He told the commission, “both my wife and I are former felony prosecutors,” and explained why he and his family sought protection. Chair Jay Robert Leach said Newsom had met the statutory standard and granted the request.
The chair congratulated the candidate on his election efforts and closed the item after ordering the administrative modification. No further testimony was requested or recorded in the calendar proceeding.
