Senior center reports membership drop but higher revenue after rate changes; health fair planned

Senior center staff (speaker 2) told the council the center had changed rates and is seeing financial improvement despite a lower membership total. "We are about 10,000 more than we were," the staff member said, adding the center has signed up new members since July 1 and that outreach and confidentiality measures were in place for members with payment concerns.
The staff member said membership had been roughly 1,000 before the change and is about 600 now. She also said the center would host a health fair on Sept. 15, open to members and the public. Councilors discussed assisting members who may have trouble paying and suggested outreach to local restaurants for donated meals to support programs such as the J Town football team; the chair offered to use the mayoral fund if necessary to feed players during the season.
Staff emphasized they had worked confidentially with members and that no one had been denied access because of inability to pay. The council encouraged coordinated outreach and offered help identifying donors and resources.
