The Jeffersontown City Council conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 1485, Series 2026, a request that the Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Council approve annexation of two tracts of land adjoining Jeffersontown. A staff member summarized the proposal and the statutory process required for a second-stage annexation.
"An ordinance relating to requesting the approval by the Louisville Jefferson County Metro Council of the annexation by the city of Jefferson Town of 2 tracts of land," said the staff member (speaker 9), explaining that Metro has 60 days to act under the cited KRS provision and that the ordinance would become law by operation of law if Metro does not act within that period. The chair opened the first reading by title only, a council member moved, it was seconded and the reading carried by voice vote.
The staff explanation noted the Planning Commission previously considered the matter and that the council need take no further action until the ordinance advances through the required process. No final vote on annexation was taken at the meeting; the item remains at first reading pending Metro Council action.
